Composites™ Acrylic Awards - where solid surface meets cast acrylic. . .

Copied by many, reproduced by none – the Composites™ Custom Acrylic Award line is a work of art by US Acrylic Awards. Staron® is composed of acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate (ATH), a material derived from bauxite ore and a perfect complimentary material for casting beautifully inside clear acrylic resins. The two mediums mesh in an exquisite manner to bring out the color characteristics represented in Staron® cast into moldable custom shapes to create a spectacular acrylic corporate award.

You may find a cheap Chinese knock off of our Composites™ Acrylic Award line, but nothing out there compares with the shapes, the colors and the manufacturing excellence of our Composites™ — and for nothing you will find is made by American hands in a US Factory.

How is the Composites™ line made?

Just like cast acrylic embedments from our Array™ line of acrylic awards, the Composites™ begin with the correct mold to create the custom shape. Each mold is made of aluminum, cardboard or a combination of the both. Strips of Staron® material are cut and prepared to be cast into the liquid acrylic resin. Once the mold is prepared and the Staron® strips are prepared, the casting crew pours a small amount of liquid acrylic resin into the mold and it’s allowed to cure for a few hours. After the short curing period, the Staron® strips are then carefully placed in the mold and additional acrylic compound is poured to the desired thickness. The molds are left to cure for several hours and then placed inside an autoclave that will apply constant pressure and heat for 8-10 hours driving all of the bubbles out and clarifying the acrylic. The acrylic will shrink by about 25% in the autoclave making it easy to remove from the mold. From this rough state, you would never know — that with the hands of a skilled craftsman using saws, sanders, planers and polishers – the Composites™ Acrylic Award will transform into a work of custom acrylic art.

See our Array Acrylic Embedment page for a more detailed description of the processes behind casting acrylic.

We’re always interested in opportunities to create completely custom acrylic awards. If you have an idea, we’re as near as your phone – so give us a call and we will put pencil to paper and make it happen.
