How do we make a LaserCut™ Custom Acrylic Award?

It starts with first contact — that’s the contact you and one of our customer service reps will make after you place your order online with USAcrylicAwards.com. We discuss your logo, placement and potential shapes to enhance your brand. Once we have all of our production notes, your order is sent back to the artists to create a virtual proof. Some of our customers wonder why we create a virtual proof, and our answer is always the same — USAcrylicAwards.com wants to be certain you know exactly what you’re getting before we cut into any material. To make a long story short we want you to be 100% satisfied with your custom shape, printing colors and placement on the acrylic awards we are creating.

Your proof will come via email in .pdf format and be openable in Adobe Acrobat Reader which most modern computers have installed. If yours does not, you can download from the link provided by clicking the Adobe name in blue. We’re pretty confident when you see your proof, you’re likely to say wow, that’s way better than I even imagined! Let’s get this order going. Once we have approval, the magic begins! First off, we need to make our cut and print files in the art room, where we gang up all of your awards on one sheet of material in order to print and cut all at the same time. That saves you money, because we do not want to waste any materials, time or labor on your project. Once our production files are complete the project is sent to printing where one of our large flatbed printers is loaded with the acrylic sheet and prints the images on the acrylic. We have two printers one with a 4’ x 8’ bed and one with a 3’ x 5’ bed. We choose which printer to use based on the job size at hand. The acrylic sheets are printed and look like a thick piece of glass with paper coating on one side for protection and multiple full color images on the other. Often the images are printed in reverse so they may look white rather than representing the colors. Don’t worry that’s normal because we use an opaque white behind all of our reverse prints to make sure your colors pop when you look through the crystal-clear acrylic at the printed image.

Our product name LaserCut™ is exactly what it means, we have three cutting lasers in house. A 400 watt, 320 watt and 150 watt all of which cut to exacting standards. Some people ask, how do you get the laser to cut so precisely to the printed images on the acrylic since you use two pieces of equipment? Our brilliant team in the art room takes care of that by adding Fiducial Markers (little dots) to the print file in 5 locations that were placed on the acrylic sheet while we printed your images and will be read by a camera on the laser in order to calculate exact cutting positions. One of our favorite things is watching a laser slice through an inch-thick piece of acrylic leaving a nice finished edge on the custom shape. Even though we get a nice edge from our laser equipment, we take finishing to the next level at US Acrylic Awards.

Each award is placed in our diamond honing machine which will square off the bottom to a perfect 90° angle so your trophies will always sit flat without any potential lean or rocking or bubbling in the gluing stage. The protective paper barrier is then removed from the opposite side of the acrylic and each award is meticulously inspected, buffed to perfection and glued to an acrylic base if requested.

Finishing is the key to a fine acrylic award. It’s something you will never get from Chinese or overseas products.
